🎶 Synergy Speaks! A Sneak Peek at The Band’s Sound 🎤

Music is at the heart of each book of The Boy Band Saga. In Flying Without Wings, we see the beginnings of 1990s era boy band Synergy. When I began writing this saga, I thought the most difficult part would be getting the various aspects of the music world correct. After all, much like Sydney, I cannot sing. However, unlike Sydney, I didn’t grow up with family members who can. To make her world come alive, I thought I might have to stretch my writing and research abilities to their limits.

It turns out, that is all rather easy, compared to what has really tripped me up: writing the lyrics for Synergy’s music. Poerty and I have sort of a love-hate relationship–I love to hate it.

But a song is, in many ways, simply a poem set to music. Okay, so I am sure that Diane Warren, Taylor Swift, and even JC Chasez will likely tell me that it is much more than that. Still, I am going to stand by that. Writing the lyrics of a song requires at the very least a basic knowledge and understanding of poetic structures and rhythms. While I have that basic knowledge, I don’t like using it.

Poetry, to me, is too restrictive. I don’t like following the rules–not when it comes to writing, anyway. If I have something to say, I want to just say it.

But Synergy needs songs to sing. Writing the lyrics myself is going to be easier–on both my deadlines and my wallet–than hiring someone to do it for me. And so, I have been working on their musical catalog.

Here is one of the songs that will appear in Flying Without Wings. I’d love your thoughts:

🔥 “Lost in Your Eyes Tonight”

The world fades out
It’s just you and me in this crowded room
You’re all I see
Your hand in mine, time slows down
I never knew love could be this loud

Every breath, every sigh
Tells me this is where I belong tonight
No words needed, your heart speaks to mine
And I’m falling, yeah, I’m falling

I’m lost in your eyes tonight
Drowning in the way you shine
Like a million stars lighting the night sky
Girl, I’m lost, lost in your eyes tonight

The way you smile, it’s pulling me in
Like a tidal wave I just can’t resist
If this is a dream, don’t ever wake me up
I just wanna stay wrapped in your love

Every breath, every sigh
Tells me this is where I belong tonight
No words needed, your heart speaks to mine
And I’m falling, yeah, I’m falling

I’m lost in your eyes tonight
Drowning in the way you shine
Like a million stars lighting the night sky
Girl, I’m lost, lost in your eyes tonight

No place I’d rather be
Than right here, you and me
Locked in this moment, holding tight
Let’s get lost in forever tonight

I’m lost in your eyes tonight
Drowning in the way you shine
Like a million stars lighting the night sky
Girl, I’m lost, lost in your eyes tonight

So hold me close, don’t let me go
We’ve got tonight, let’s take it slow
Girl, I’m lost, lost in your eyes tonight
